Polo Grounds Fire House

  • Category: Municipal
  • Square Feet: 52,750
  • Location: Polo Grounds Houses NYC

A proposal for using a FDNY station to bridge a gap, both physical and psychological, between dispirit areas. The building, situated on a forgotten corner in Harlem, utilizes the changing elevation of the space with circulation and public spaces for community development.

The omnipotent presence of a busy firehouse activates this neglected corner of NYC, giving a safe, engaging space back to the community. The program included the fire station, as well as spaces for the community to utilize — recreation lawns, a lecture hall, rec room, meeting rooms, and lounge.
